A: Tell me a bit about EchoWave and how you started this business?
B: 4 years ago, a friend invited me to work for another DJ company to help out during the Christmas season rush. After playing a few parties, I quickly found that I was an intuitive natural at it. I then decided to invest in the best equipment money could buy and embarked upon self-employment. Through some strategic internet advertising and attending a few wedding shows, demand for my services surged and my company grew rapidly.

A: What type of events do you mostly DJ to?
B: We specialize in wedding receptions, but we are just as comfortable with any other type of event, such as birthday parties, retirement parties, corporate events, holiday gatherings, school functions, anniversary parties, grand openings, etc.

A: What's the difference between a good DJ and a bad DJ?

B: A good DJ will own a complete, licensed, CD-quality music library that covers all genres and all age groups. He must also be highly intuitive and be able to read the crowd and play music that THEY like, not music only the DJ likes. It seems that many people think that they can become a DJ overnight by downloading music off the internet and plugging in a couple a speakers. We hear countless stories of regret from people who hired a cheap DJ who lacked professionalism or the ability to read the crowd and play appropriate music. We have also heard how a friend's friend DJ'ed their wedding for free but ended up playing nothing but loud Rap or Techno because he was strictly a night-club DJ.

A: Where were you born?
B: Richmond, B.C.

A: Tell me a bit about your education?
B: After graduating from high school, I took some computer programming courses at Kwantlen college. I found that to be quite dry and boring, and discovered that my true inspiration in life was to work with music. I then decided to build my home studio while working in sales at A&B Sound.

A: What are your passion in life?
B: Working with music, and creating and producing it as well. I also am a big fan of the types of spiritual concepts described in the movie “The Secret” and books such as “The Law of Attraction”

A: What do you do for fun on your time off?

B: Currently I am restoring and custom modifying my 1987 Toyota Supra to be as fast and beautiful as a new BMW, for the sake of owning something cool and unique. I am also involved in bodybuilding and producing music in my home studio.

A: Any tips to my readers on business success or how to hire the right DJ?
B: I greatly attribute my success to offering better service than my customer expected, and personalized appearances, either at wedding shows, or through my website which has things like videos of us introducing ourselves. A truly savvy customer wants quality, professionalism, and experience, and does not worry about price as long as it is reasonable. Everyone will remember the DJ at your event. Is it really worth skimping on? To hire the right DJ, meet your DJ in person. You will quickly get an impression about this person’s real experience and capability. Try to get a referral from someone who has used this DJ’s services.
